Herb Ormond and Keais Hoyt explain how to demonstrate and build Christ-based relationships in the workplace.
In 1981, Keais Hoyt and Herb Ormond met briefly at UNC at a campus fellowship. Twelve years later they reconnected in Greenville and began a unique friendship that has impacted both of their lives – and the lives of many others – over the past 23 years. During this time, they have worked in different industries. Then, they worked in the same industry, for different companies, then the same firm, and now each has their own firm.
Clients often scratch their heads when they pull up in their parking lot – only to see a “competitor” right next door. “How did that happen?” they ask. Very intentionally. Few people can fully grasp the pressures and responsibilities of this unique situation. Herb & Keais will explain how they demonstrate Christ in the workplace and why they decided it was more important to have a trusted Christian friend next door than to worry about potential business awkwardness. It is a focus on deep, trusted, Christian friendship versus money.
Herb Ormond has been a financial advisor for over 30 years but his early adult years were quite different. From ages 18 to 23 he went from being a frat boy to a Christ-follower to a leader of the largest Christian organization on UNC’s campus and a summer Youth Minister. Faced with having to choose a career path, he was torn between the business world (Business Administration was his major) and the ministry world. He opted to become a Youth Minister and Assistant Pastor of a church in Raleigh. Over time he came to the realization that he could pursue both passions simultaneously. Since leaving vocational ministry, he and his wife, Martha-Duke, have lived in Wilmington (8+ years) and Greenville (since 1993). They have three adult daughters (all married) and one precious grandson. Herb has had the opportunity to mentor individuals, lead Small Group Bible studies, teach adult Sunday School, and preach in churches large and small. Within his own company he seeks to emulate Christ – both His heart and His principles – to all that God brings into his path.
Keais Hoyt, a local small business owner, is a native of Kinston NC and has lived in Greenville NC with his wife, Lisa, for the past 28 years. Lisa is a retired Physical Therapist. They have two married children. Their daughter, Evan, is married to Caleb Beyer, and they live in Greenville. Their son, Tanner, is married to Brittany, and they live in Lynchburg, VA.
Keais has served on the local boards of Golden Living Center and Communities in Schools and has worked on various committees of the United Way and the Pitt County Chamber of Commerce. As a former Eagle Scout, Keais has also served on the Pitt County Eagle Scout Board of Review. He has been very active in the University City Kiwanis Club where he has served as President, Treasurer and Advisory Board Member. Through his involvement in Kiwanis since 1989, he has earned the Kiwanis George Hixon Award and the International Tablet of Honor.
He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. Keais is an active member of Covenant Methodist Church and has served on the Finance Team and is a member of the Stewardship Team. In addition, he and his wife have a passion for volunteering their time in the financial counseling ministry at Covenant.
